"Is Parenting Supposed to Be This Hard?

Living with a complex child can drain you to the core.
Parenting a Complex Child Can Feel Exhausting.
At home, where it’s safe, they let it all out. And it’s HARD.
It can feel like anything might set them off, and once they’re overwhelmed, there’s no reasoning, no calming—it’s just chaos.
Beneath the surface, so much is going on for your complex child, and you may not even know what to look for.

It can show up in different ways:
-
Frequent, intense meltdowns that drain everyone.
-
Impulsivity that feels impossible to manage.
-
Struggles with self-regulation that impact every part of their day.
-
Constant sibling conflicts that leave you playing referee.
-
Persistent boredom no matter what you try.
If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.

Who am I and why am I so passionate about this?
Hi, I'm Ilyssa Bass PhD, Psychologist, Parent Educator and mommy of 5 awesome kids.

I have lived through loooong, intense and frequent meltdowns that drained me to the core.

I was trained to diagnose and treat. I wanted a diagnosis, to find out what was wrong with my child and FIX IT. This mindset kept me stuck and helpless. The game changer for me was finding other mommies like me, online communities of women who were raising kids with what I call Hidden Differences.

The support I found taught me how to uncover the roots of my child's stress, support his strengths and create plans that transformed the difficult behavior so I could ENJOY my family.
Today my passion is sharing those techniques, creating that community for Jewish mommies of complex kids so none of us have to walk this journey alone.
I can't wait to meet you.

Explore the modules:
Module 1: Why Me? Why My Child? Finding Meaning in the Challenge

Parenting a complex child pushes you to ask deep questions: Why is this my journey? What does Hashem want from me? This opening session provides a powerful framework to help you find clarity and purpose—even in the most difficult moments.

Module 2: Seeing the World Through Their Eyes

Why is everyday life so overwhelming for my child? Understanding your child’s inner experience is the first step to connecting with them. Rabbi Taub offers insight into the emotional world of high-stress kids, while Dr. Bass explains the brain-based differences that shape their behavior. This shift in perspective is transformative.

Module 3: Parenting Outside the Box

Traditional parenting strategies often fall flat with complex kids. This module explores how to break free from rigid expectations and tap into creativity, intuition, and playfulness to build real connection.

Module 4: The Right Kind of Help

How do you balance helping your child without holding them back? We’ll explore when to accommodate, when to let them struggle, and how to bring Hashem into the process while creating a home and school environment that supports real growth.

Module 5: Helping Your Child Shine

Parenting your complex kid is not just about managing difficulties and challenges—it’s also about unlocking strengths. How do you identify and nurture your child’s gifts? How do you build the long-term skills they’ll need for adulthood? This session is about shifting the focus from struggle to opportunity.

Module 6: Family, Community, and the World

Our kids don’t exist in a vacuum. How can we help others—siblings, relatives, teachers—appreciate and support them? What’s realistic to expect, and where do we need to advocate? This final module explores how to integrate your child into the world in a way that honors who they are.
